Our Story
We were a cause long before we were a company.
SurgeonCheck was born from Dr. Marc Granson’s lifelong commitment to ensuring access to high‑quality surgical care. With more than 33 years of experience as a surgeon—including 22 years as Chairman of Surgery—Dr. Granson understands firsthand that outcomes can vary significantly from one surgeon to another, even when intentions are good.
Throughout his career, he was troubled by the expectation that patients place blind faith in choosing a surgeon. For too long, those decisions have relied on subjective factors such as relationships, network status, or bedside manner—rather than objective evidence. Dr. Granson has always believed that every patient deserves access to clear, data‑driven information to identify the best surgeon for their specific procedure.
That belief became deeply personal after Dr. Granson lost a close friend to colon cancer—a largely preventable disease—due to a surgeon’s failure to identify cancerous polyps during a routine screening colonoscopy. Despite faithfully following recommended preventive care, a single decision—choosing the wrong surgeon—led to a devastating outcome. This tragedy underscored the urgent need for transparency in surgical quality and transformed Dr. Granson’s conviction into action.
Determined to prevent similar outcomes, Dr. Granson founded SurgeonCheck.
Our healthcare system is in need of a transparency revolution, and SurgeonCheck is leading the way. By delivering objective, data‑driven insights on surgeon performance, we empower patients to make informed decisions, support better outcomes, and elevate the standard of surgical care.

Dr. Marc GransonFounder & Chief Quality Officer
Dr. Granson is the founder and Chief Quality Officer of SurgeonCheck. Previously, he was a practicing vascular surgeon for 33 years and the founding member of a 45-person, multi-specialty group practice, which included vascular surgeons, radiologists, and cardiologists.
Dr. Granson’s practice was the first in the nation to combine interventional radiology and vascular surgery to focus on best serving patients rather than competing financially. He served as Chairman of Surgery for Muhlenberg Hospital from 1990 to 1999 and for St. Luke’s University Health Network from 2003 to 2016. In late 2016, Dr. Granson stepped down as Chairman of Surgery to dedicate all his energy to SurgeonCheck.
He earned a B.S. from Indiana University, where he played on the freshman basketball team, and earned an M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Granson completed his general surgery residency at the University of Southern California and his fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.
When Dr. Granson isn’t pursuing his mission to bring transparency to surgical quality, you can find him golfing, water skiing, biking, watching college basketball and lacrosse, or spending time with his ten grandchildren.
